Release notes for Server Ping & Storage Monitor. This page lists public changes, fixes, and improvements for each version.
Improves ping scheduling accuracy, reduces background CPU use, and makes license handling more efficient.
Changed
- Ping scheduling now honours the interval configured for each host. For example, a host set to 10 seconds is no longer checked every second.
- Ping starts are staggered using the configured spacing while allowing up to eight checks to run concurrently when earlier checks are still in progress. This prevents one slow host from unnecessarily delaying the others.
Fixed
- Fixed stale ping timers that could keep using an old interval after editing a host.
- Fixed scheduler behaviour that could queue a host too early. A host now never starts a new ping before its own configured interval has elapsed; small delays are allowed when workers are busy.
Performance
- Reduced CPU use during active monitoring, especially when multiple ping checks are already running.
- License permissions are now cached and reused during normal ping, storage, and sound-alert activity. License status is refreshed only when the app starts or after a genuine license-state change, such as activation, upgrade, downgrade, or a trial transition.
Simplifies license activation and improves recovery after a server reinstall.
Changed
- License activation is now a single field: paste either your license key or an offline activation code and click Activate. The app detects the type automatically, so there is no longer a separate row for each. Pressing Enter in the field also activates.
- Invalid offline activation codes now show a clear, specific error immediately, without contacting the online store.
Fixed
- Storage monitoring now recovers easily after a server or NAS is reinstalled: when the device’s SSH identity changes, simply open Edit for that host and save it — the new identity is trusted on the next check. Only that host is affected; no files need to be edited manually.
Licensing
- Improved trial integrity: the trial period is now protected against tampering and accidental resets.
A major stability, reliability, and performance update, with stronger security for SSH-based storage checks.
Added
- SSH host key verification for Synology and Proxmox/Linux storage checks. The app remembers each device’s SSH identity on first contact and warns if it changes, protecting your credentials from device impersonation on the network.
- Status change history: every host status change (up, down, storage health) is now recorded in the application log, so you can see exactly when a device went down or recovered.
Changed
- The app now starts instantly. The license check no longer delays the window from appearing, even when the computer is offline.
- Ping problems are now labeled precisely: “DNS failed”, “Unreachable”, or “Ping error” instead of a generic “Timeout” for every failure.
- The default latency limit for newly added hosts is now 200 ms (previously 10 ms), which avoids false “High latency” alerts on Wi-Fi and VPN connections. Existing hosts keep their configured values.
- Lower CPU usage during outages: the interface now only redraws when a status actually changes.
- Support is now handled through the website support form.
Fixed
- Local Windows storage health checks (SMART via WMI) failed to run in the background; they now work reliably.
- Storage monitoring settings are no longer lost when the app runs in Free mode. Your configuration is preserved and restored in full when a license is activated.
- A damaged settings file no longer prevents the app from starting. The app now backs up the damaged file, recovers automatically, and keeps every readable host entry.
- Fixed rare crashes that could occur when editing or removing a host while a check was running, or when closing the app during active checks.
- A storage device that stops responding mid-check can no longer stall its monitoring permanently; checks now time out and resume on schedule.
- Fixed a network resource leak in SNMP-based storage checks (Buffalo) that could build up during long outages.
- Settings are now saved safely, so a crash or power loss during saving can no longer corrupt them.
Licensing
- License keys now activate the correct edition automatically: Personal Standard keys activate Personal Standard, and Personal Pro keys activate Personal Pro.
- The trial no longer incorrectly reports the system clock as tampered in rare cases, such as time zone differences or a wrongly set clock on first launch.
- The trial now lasts exactly 7 days.
- The License window now always shows the correct PC ID for offline activation.
Fixes text size (font) scaling and related window sizing issues.
Fixed
- Text size changes now apply to every row immediately and consistently, including right after the app starts.
- The window now resizes to fit its contents as soon as the text size is increased, so the Health column is no longer cut off.
- The window now shrinks back to fit right away when the text size is decreased, instead of resizing only after a short delay.
- The Health column is now sized to fit the longest status text (such as “Storage health error”) and is no longer clipped on the left and right at large font sizes.
Adds the Personal Standard license, renames the trial, and includes bug fixes.
Added
- Personal Standard license: a one-time paid edition with up to 10 hosts, storage checks, and sound alerts.
- Personal Standard can be purchased online and activated with a license key.
Changed
- The 7-day trial is now called simply “Trial” (previously “Pro Trial”).
- Paid editions are now Personal Standard (up to 10 hosts) and Personal Pro (up to 25 hosts).
Fixed
- General stability and reliability improvements.
Licensing
- Personal Standard and Personal Pro are one-time licenses, each activated online with a license key.
- Offline activation is available for both paid editions.
- After the 7-day trial ends, the app returns to Free mode unless a license is activated.
